As the year 2022 gets underway, we’re seeing a slew of newly announced products make their way onto the market. It was impossible not to drool during the Consumer Electronics Show, and some of the promises made there are finally coming to fruition. The year 2022 appears to be a big year for lightweight laptops because Lenovo introduces a new ThinkPad and IdeaPad Gaming lineup.
The majority of our most anticipated gaming laptops from CES have yet to be revealed, but Samsung recently announced the Galaxy Book2 Pro, which is powered by Intel Arc graphics, and Lenovo is joining the party with its new line up, which includes the Arm-powered ThinkPad. Lenovo offers its own take on the 2022 theme of small, thin Laptops.
One of the most compelling selling points of the new ThinkPad X13 is its claim to provide an extremely long battery life. Because of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 processor, these machines consume very little power when in use.
That processor has a TDP of only 9 watts, which is quite low considering Lenovo claims it has the performance of an unnamed Intel Core i5 processor. Of course, we’d like to see this in person before we believe the hype, but that’s a laptop that could easily last the entire day without a problem. It’s just a pleasure to see. Although, with 5G support, I could see the battery draining a little more quickly than advertised when the device is in use. When it comes to Windows 11 laptops, they have the feel of a tablet replacement for those who want something more.
These will be available for purchase beginning in May at a starting price of $1,099 USD each. Lenovo also announced the IdeaPad Gaming 3 line of laptops, which the company claims is aimed at younger gamers. Though traditionally thought of as budget-friendly ThinkPads with a few extra bells and whistles, IdeaPads now have their sights set on the gaming market. The specifications of the 15″ and 16″ inch models could make for some interesting gadgets, even though it looks like they don’t belong together.
Both are available in Intel and AMD configurations, with the Intel models having slightly higher specifications and higher price tags to match. Potential buyers can choose between an AMD Ryzen 7 6800H or an Intel Core i7 processor up to the 12th generation.
This can be used in conjunction with an Intel RTX 3060 graphics card or an AMD RTX 3050 Ti graphics card. When you combine 32 GB of DDR4 memory with 1 TB of SSD storage, the gaming store begins to come together a little more. Anyone looking for a high-performance gaming laptop should look elsewhere, as these aren’t quite up to the task.
Lenovo, on the other hand, has its Legion line of laptops to fill that void. Instead, the IdeaPad Gaming 3 appears to be a logical choice for those looking for a lower-priced laptop that can also play a limited number of games. However, it’s not even close to the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro, which caught our attention because of its good basics.
When it comes to students who want to do a little bit of lower-powered gaming in between study sessions or who have some educational games they need to play on the same machine, this could be a good option to consider. Games like Minecraft and Fortnite should be a breeze to play on this system. These laptops will cost between $929 and $1,489 for the most powerful Intel model. It might be better to wait for the new Legion model or other 2022 laptop prices before making a decision.
