Nvidia has once again expanded its GeForce RTX 40 GPU series lineup with the launch of the GeForce RTX 4070 GPU. At $599, this is the least expensive option in Nvidia’s 40-series lineup, making it the least expensive card to support DLSS 3, which provides a significant performance boost.
In a Hurry? Here’s my recommended Top Pick Graphics Card.
DLSS 3 enables the new GeForce RTX 4070 to play the majority of modern titles at over 100 frames per second and 1440p resolution, according to Nvidia. In addition, Nvidia claims you can expect up to 1.4x the performance of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 in games when using DLSS 3, a feature not supported by older cards.

Nvidia claims that even in traditional rasterized games, the RTX 4070 achieves the same level of performance as the RTX 3080 while consuming “nearly” half the power, which is excellent news if you’re looking to save money on your energy bill. This GPU has 2GB more memory than the RTX 3080, which is yet another advantage.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 also offers improvements for content creators, with Nvidia promising up to 2.8x faster performance in Nvidia Omniverse (compared to an RTX 3070 Ti) and 40% greater efficacy in video encoding using applications such as OBS due to support for AV1 encoding.
However, it is important to note that the RTX 4070 is the first 40-series GPU to only include a single NVENC encoder, whereas all the others have two. As a result, video creators will experience significantly reduced performance when compared to the more expensive cards. Nonetheless, it will lead to a significant improvement in video quality on platforms that support AV1 encoding.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 will be available on April 13 as a Founders Edition and through board partners including Asus, Galax, Gigabyte, and others. Prices begin at $599, but depending on the model, third-party cards will likely cost more.
